WorkSetu ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights when you use the WorkSetu mobile application and related services.
By using WorkSetu, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to operate a safe, verified, community-driven platform.
A. Information You Provide
- Account Information: Name, Email address, Phone number, and Password (encrypted).
- Profile Information: Profile picture (avatar).
Worker Verification Information (Workers only)
- Government-issued identification document (masked or unmasked)
- Real-time selfie for identity verification
🔒 Privacy Protection Notice:
- Verification documents and selfies are processed temporarily only for identity verification.
- All verification data is permanently deleted immediately after worker approval.
- No ID documents or selfies are stored on the Platform.
- Verification data is never visible to other users.
- Access is strictly limited to authorized verification systems.
- Used solely for one-time identity verification.
We strongly recommend masking sensitive identification numbers (such as Aadhaar or license numbers) before uploading documents. Even if unmasked documents are uploaded, they are not retained after verification.

B. Information Collected Automatically
- Device & Technical Data: Device model, OS version, and identifiers (for security and notifications).
- App Usage & Diagnostics: Crash reports and error logs (anonymous).
- Location Information: We do NOT track GPS location. We store only the city/location you manually select for local matching.
2. Permissions We Use
WorkSetu may request the following permissions:
- Camera – to upload profile pictures and verification documents (optional)
- Storage/Media Access – to upload images
- Notifications – to send important updates and alerts
These permissions are used only when you initiate the action.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Account creation and authentication
- Worker identity verification
- Enabling resident-worker interactions
- Sending OTPs, alerts, and community notifications
- Preventing fraud and abuse
- Customer support and dispute resolution
- Improving app performance and stability
4. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell personal data. We share limited data only with trusted service providers:
- Render – secure cloud hosting and database
- Cloudinary – encrypted image storage (for profile images and app content only; not used for worker verification documents)
- Expo / Google Firebase – push notifications and analytics
Data may also be disclosed if required by law or to protect user safety.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Retention: We retain your data while your account is active.
Deletion (Your Right): You can delete your account anytime via: Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account
This will permanently delete profile info, login credentials, and uploaded images/ID proofs. Some anonymized data (e.g., reviews) may remain.
6. Data Security
- SSL/TLS encryption for all data in transit
- Encrypted storage for sensitive files
- Passwords hashed using bcrypt
- Strict access control for temporary verification processing systems
7. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or update your personal data, delete your account, or withdraw consent for optional permissions.
8. Children’s Privacy
WorkSetu is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. You will be notified of significant changes through the app.
